About

My Work

My work combines the powerful new fields of Dynamic Eating Psychology and Mind-Body Nutrition. The skills I utilize are a combination of practical coaching techniques, results-oriented psychology, clinical nutrition, body-centered practices, mind-body science, and a positive and compassionate approach to challenges with food and health.

As an Eating Psychology Coach, my approach is positive and empowering. I do not see my clients eating challenges merely as signs that “something is wrong with you” – but as a place where we can more fully explore some of the personal dimensions in life that impact food, weight and health.

Who I work with

5

People who can’t stop obsessing about food.

5

Anyone who’s suffering after another night of endless eating.

5

People who turn to food every time they feel uncomfortable, sad or For those of us who’ve lost weight and gained it back more times than we can count.

5

Those of us who hate our body.

5

People who push their body HARD with exercise yet never get the results they want.

5

Anyone who keeps having health issues, has little time for self care, and lives in a state of perpetual overwhelm.

5

Those of us who feel that our experience of food and body is holding us back from living the life we’re meant to lead.

What connects us

Many people who struggle with eating concerns have a common strategy. It’s called “attack.”

5

We attack our weight.

5

We fight our appetite.

5

We punish the body with forced exercise.

5

We bombard ourselves with hurtful thoughts.

5

We deny ourselves pleasure.

5

We punish ourselves with dieting.

5

We hate our body fat.

5

We postpone happiness until we have the “perfect” body.

About

My Approach

In my professional practice, I combine many of the best strategies from nutrition science and eating psychology. By eliminating all the “shoulds and shouldn’ts”, I focus on what’s right for your body and your personal style. As we work together in this way, eating and health issues become a place of exploration.

Instead of seeing such challenges as the enemy, they become opportunities for growth and self-improvement. In my training at the Institute for the Psychology of Eating, I’ve learned to help clients reach their highest goals not by programs that punish, but through strategies that nourish.

Hello

I’m Annie

My relationship with my body and with food has been a very dynamic and transformational one filled with negative messages, self hatred at times and with the underlying message that “If I could only change this part or the other part of my body, I would feel much better about myself.”

More about me...

The community and society I grew up with were convinced and inundated with the concept that food, exercise and body was a factor to be controlled by harsh diets, painful massages, intense workout and a “fix yourself up” with plastic surgery mentality.

For most of my life, messages around body image and eating habits have been profoundly confusing and filled with tension, punishment and fear.

Most of my community struggled with seeing food as “the enemy” and seeing themselves as weak for not having enough motivation to stick with ‘the regimen’. On the other hand, I intuitively sensed  a more nourishing, compassionate and loving way of being with my body where food and movement could be a source of nourishment and pleasure.

The tension between these two approaches has been a very intriguing one for me, which allowed me to research and dive into the dynamic and magnificent field of Eating Psychology.

Having a deeper sense of understanding of my intimate relationship with body image, eating habits, eating rhythm, food sensitivities, and other food related issues has been key to a more loving and compassionate journey with myself and with others.

Becoming an Eating Psychology Coach has been a transformational experience and the gifts of this journey I would be honored to share with you.

My experience...

I earned a Masters of Education from the College of New Jersey, later obtained my Masters of Arts in Psychology from Teachers College, Columbia University in NY in 2006.

From Manhattan, Brooklyn, Burlington and Middlebury, I have in the past 10 years had the opportunity to work as a clinician/mental health provider with various individuals, couples and families all with the goal of supporting them through their life challenges.

In the past couple of years, I found myself interested in the world of nutrition and psychology. As a result I pursued training at the Institute for the Psychology of Eating (IPE) where I received my certification as an Eating Psychology Coach. In IPE’s internationally acclaimed program, I learned powerful/cutting edge tools and protocols that enabled me to work with weight issues, body image challenges, overeating, binge eating, and a variety of nutrition related health concerns.
